Carol Kelpin Art and Photography

Carol is a photographer and artist living in Parksville, BC, with a passion for nature and wildlife.  While photography initially provided an avenue for capturing the wonders of the natural world, Carol hopes to also bring the magic of nature to life in a variety of art mediums.  Photography, pyrography and coloured pencil drawings serve as ways to bring amazing animals to life and into more homes and hearts. Wood carving and pottery pieces are hand made works of art that are both beautiful and functional.

Pyrography & Drawing

Pyrography means "writing with fire.” It is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks using the controlled application of heat. Carol started in pyrography with simple designs burned on wood and immediately fell in love with the art form. Burning on both wood and paper, Carol strives to create realistic animal portraits. Original art work is hand burned by the artist. Prints of both wood and paper originals are available on fine art archival papers. Carol also enjoys bringing wildlife and pets to life with coloured pencil. Note: All original pyrography art is finished with a UV protecting varnish. Pyrography art can be subject to fading over time, especially with exposure to direct sunlight, regardless of the finish applied. Some fine detail may become less defined over time. To best protect your pyrography art, do not displace it in direct sunlight.

Photography

Animals always bring a smile to Carol's face, and she hopes that her wildlife photography makes others care about the animals as much as she does. A love of animals is at the root of wildlife conservation and environmental preservation. Carol hopes to capture the unique personal characteristics of a variety of curious, quirky and magnificent animals she has had the absolute pleasure of encountering in both urban and wild places.

Wood Carving and Pottery

Hand made creations out of wood and pottery are one of a kind. Each wood piece is hand carved, using locally sources, repurposed or offcut woods whenever possible. Pottery is wheel thrown an decorated using a variety of drawing, painting and carving techniques, often with nature and wildlife as the inspiration.
